“People can buy a lot of basic fabrics they need. I do a little bit of curtaining. I do embroidery, I started that about 5 years ago when I saw there was a demand for embroidery. We do servicing of sewing machines, sales of sewing machines and a lot haberdashery, which is all of your zips and buttons and cotton.”
Fabric and Habby World has been around for almost 30 years, with Faizel taking over the running of the business in 2004. Since then he’s learned how to manage stock effectively by paying attention to customer’s needs.
“Business has gotten very tight and we’ve learned to order things that customers want. If you buy unnecessary stuff that people don’t want then you are sitting with a lot of wasted stock. The last 2 or 3 years we’ve been buying only things that the customers ask for.”
In the next year, he plans to expand his business and move into the centre of town.
