Chene of Bokmakierie Nursery in Veelsdrift.

Starting a business is a big decision. A decision that Chene made in order to contribute to the community and to have better quality of life.

Small businesses are important everywhere. We have a big, capitalist model we can’t sustain. Rather have small businesses cater for a community by, a community. I chose to start my small business because I was in the corporate industry for 20yrs. I needed to get out of the city! I started Bokmakierie Nursery in Velddrift because it just ticked all my boxes. I wanted to be close enough to the city, but not too close. There’s a lot to love about Velddrift. Flowers, fishermen, farmers and flamingoes on the back stoep.

What makes Bokmakierie Wholesale Nursery unique? They specialise in waterwise, indigenous plants that they propagate themselves. That helps keep costs low and helps to grow the plants in the area so they acclimatise.

You have to be passionate about what you are doing. Something you want to get out of bed for because it’s hard work.
